The Foundation Committee of the College decided on the name Matthew Flinders in recognition of the spirit of one of our distinguished explorers, in the same way that James Cook and Charles Sturt have universities named in their honour.

The aim of our College is to promote individual excellence within a caring school community based on Christian principles. Our College’s founding motto – Faith, Skill, Endeavour – evokes the spirit of Matthew Flinders and the values our College instils in its student body. Furthermore, it encourages our students to embrace the opportunities available to them as they strive for 'Excellence in Learning and Life'.

Flinders is a separately incorporated independent co-educational day school, which began with an enrolment of 160 students in Years 5 to 8 in 1990. Since that time, our College has built a reputation as an educational institution of excellence, and grown to an enrolment of 1,400 students from Prep to Year 12. The demand by parents for the quality education we offer at Flinders is increasing, in part, due to the confident and compassionate citizens we encourage our students to become.
