Flinders provides a wide range of learning opportunities across all areas of the curriculum and nurtures individual student’s talents and interests.
As part of this commitment, the College offers scholarships for students with special talents who, in turn, will make a significant contribution to the life of the College.
The scholarships, remitting up to 50% of tuition fees, are offered to students entering Years 7–12. The Principal’s Scholarship, offering full remission of tuition fees, is offered to outstanding students not currently enrolled at the College.
Open now for a Term 1, 2026 commencement are the Music, Sport and the Principal's Scholarships. Applications are due by 9am on Monday, 11 August, 2025.

Scholarship Applications – Now Open (for 2026 entry)

Music
Music Scholarships are offered to students entering Years 7-12 in 2026. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement along with outstanding musical ability. Scholarships are offered on the basis of an audition and a subsequent interview with the Head of Music and Head of Secondary. Applicants are also to provide evidence of broad involvement across school life and commit to upholding the College values of compassion, courage, integrity and respect. Applicants are not required to sit the academic testing.
Scholarship key dates: Applications open on Tuesday, 1 July 2025 and close on Monday, 11 August 2025.
Financial remission: Successful Music Scholarship applicants are remitted up to 50% of annual tuition fees.
Scholarship duration: The scholarship will commence in Term 1, 2026 and be awarded for the duration of the student’s Secondary schooling. The scholarship will be subject to an annual review by the College.
Additional scholarship opportunities: Applicants of the Sport and Music Scholarships who are not currently enrolled at Flinders are encouraged to also apply for the Principal’s Scholarship.

YEARS 7-9
Applicants entering Years 7–9 must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement and are expected to have achieved the following minimum AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) or equivalent grades by the end of the year prior to entry.
Years 7–9:Ìý
Instrumentalists: AMEB Grade 3 to 4 (or equivalent)
Vocalists: AMEB Grade 2 to 3 (or equivalent)
Equivalent grades from other recognised examining bodies, such as Trinity College, will also be considered. Applicants will be assessed based on demonstrated potential, evidenced by achieving at least these minimum standards.
It is expected that musicians awarded a scholarship will:
- Demonstrate ongoing development, technically and musically. For example, completing one AMEB or Trinity College (or equivalent) practical exam per year.
- Actively participate in at least two co-curricular music ensembles featuring their scholarship instrument, thereby demonstrating a sustained commitment to the College’s Music Program.
- Consider Music as part of their academic studies.
YEARS 10-12
Applicants entering Years 10–12 must demonstrate sound academic ability and are expected to have achieved the following minimum AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) or equivalent grades by the end of the year prior to entry.

Instrumentalists: AMEB Grade 6 and higher (or equivalent)
Vocalists: AMEB Grade 4 and higher (or equivalent)
Equivalent grades from other recognised examining bodies, such as Trinity College, will also be considered. Applicants may also be considered based on a realised potential, evidenced by achieving at least these minimum standards.
It is expected that musicians awarded a scholarship will:
- Demonstrate ongoing development, technically and musically. For example, completing one AMEB or Trinity College (or equivalent) practical exam per year.
- Actively participate in at least two co-curricular music ensembles featuring their scholarship instrument, thereby demonstrating a sustained commitment to the College’s Music Program.
- Consider Music as part of their academic studies.
In addition, a recipient of a Music Scholarship would be required to:
- Be prepared to perform as a soloist at College functions.
- Be prepared to attend and take part in Music workshops, camps and tours as organised by the College.
- Prioritise College music activities before other music commitments.
- At minimum, be the recipient of an Academic Endeavour Award at the end of each school year and maintain satisfactory academic grades
- Be prepared to work within the ethos of the College with others less able or musically developed than themselves.
- Contribute positively to the College community and uphold the College values of compassion, courage, integrity and respect.Ìý
- Demonstrate leadership within the College community. For example, assisting conductors during rehearsals, assisting other musicians, and wearing the school and performance uniforms appropriately.
AUDITION PROCESS
Based on the documentation submitted with the application and the criteria outlined above, selected applicants will be invited to attend an audition. Auditions will last approximately 15 minutes, during which applicants are required to perform two contrasting pieces of their own choice, with a combined duration of no longer than six minutes. One piece may be performed on a second instrument. Applicants must provide their own accompanist if required. In addition to performing, applicants may be asked to sight-read and complete a brief aural test, followed by an interview with the audition panel.
After the auditions, short-listed candidates and their parents will be invited to attend an interview with the Principal. Scholarship winners will be announced in September following this process. Upon completion of the process, all applicants will receive written notification regarding the outcome of their application.

Sport
Sport Scholarships at Flinders are offered to students entering Years 7-12 in 2026. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement along with outstanding performance in the field of sport (including chess or debating). Preference is given to sports which are played at Flinders. Applicants are also to show evidence of broad involvement across school life and commit to upholding the College values of compassion, courage, integrity and respect. Sport applicants are not required to sit the academic testing.

- Supporting documentation pertaining to the applicant’s areas of excellence, including levels of achievement, for example, state or national level for sportÌý
- If the applicant’s area of sporting excellence is not facilitated through Queensland School Sport pathways, provide information about the other sports the applicant represented at their current school across the past 24 months. Specify the team and level of competition as well as the competition format, i.e. Gala Day or regular season with training.
- Description of broad involvement across school life
- Two references relevant to the areas of excellence, including the contact details (email and phone) of the referees.
ELIGIBILITY AND CONTRIBUTION
Applicants are required to participate in and contribute positively to the life of the College, such as in the following ways.Ìý
- Be prepared to attend and participate in Sports events and opportunities as organised by the College.
- Be prepared to prioritise College sports activities before other sports commitments.
- Be prepared to work within the ethos of the College, contribute positively to the College community and uphold the College values of compassion, courage, integrity and respect.Ìý
- Demonstrate leadership within the College community. For example, through leadership roles and by encouraging peers during sports events and training.ÌýÌý

The Principal’s Scholarship
(open to new students only – means tested)
The Principal’s Scholarship is offered to an outstanding student entering Years 7-12 in 2026 who is not currently enrolled at the College AND who has first applied for a Music or Sport Scholarship (commencing in Term 1, 2026). The successful candidate will be selected from the Music or Sport Scholarship registrations, at the Principal's discretion.
The Principal's Scholarship is means-tested and offers full remission of tuition fees*. It also covers the Textbook and Resource Levy, Technology Levy and Mobile Device Fee but excludes other charges, for example, subject levies, uniforms, optional tours, excursions and sports/music fees.
Short-listed Music and Sport Scholarship applicants and their parents will be invited to attend an interview with the Principal. Following this process, scholarship recipients will be announced in September. Upon completion of the process, all applicants will receive written notification regarding the outcome of their application.
Scholarship key dates: Applications open on Tuesday, 1 July 2025 and close at 9:00am on Monday, 11 August 2025. No late applications will be accepted. Applicants must first have applied for a 2026 Music or Sports Scholarship (to commence Term 1, 2026).
Financial remission: The Principals Scholarship is means-tested. Successful applicants of the Principal’s Scholarship are remitted up to 100% of annual tuition fees*.
Scholarship duration: The scholarship will commence in Term 1, 2026 and be awarded for the duration of the student’s Secondary schooling. The scholarship will be subject to an annual review by the College.
*Note: Full-fee-paying overseas students are not eligible to apply for the Principal's Scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY
- The applicant must be an external student not currently enrolled at 911±¬ÁÏÍø, and who, due to financial constraints, would not normally be able to consider a Flinders education.
- The applicant’s family must be prepared to complete the Financial Statement via the online registration. This will include disclosure, in strict confidence, of the family’s financial situation.
- To be considered for the Principal’s Scholarship, the applicant must first apply online for the Music or Sports Scholarship, and then complete the Principal’s Scholarship registration.
- Please note: Full-paying overseas students are NOT eligible to apply for the Principal's Scholarship.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION
At the time of online registration, the applicant will be required to upload the following additional documentation:

- A short essay (maximum 300 words) from the student, in their own handwriting, introducing themself and explaining why they would like to attend 911±¬ÁÏÍø.

Applications for the Music, Sport, Principal's Scholarships close 9:00am on Monday, 11 August 2025. No late applications will be accepted. The selection of scholarship recipients will be determined through a College-administered process. Scholarships will be offered for the duration of the student’s Secondary schooling (subject to annual review).

Can I submit a late scholarship application?
No, scholarships must be submitted before the closing date. Scholarships are open from January to March each year for Academic and General Excellence Scholarships. Applications for Music and Sport Scholarships open in July and close in August. Both scholarships stages also provide a Principal's Scholarship opportunity.
The College believes that the process is fair for all and the open period enables all applicants during that period the chance to put their best claim forward. Scholarships are highly sought after and the College acknowledges the process enables equitable consideration of candidates. Due to the integrity of the scholarships process, the College is unable to offer any special considerations.
When will scholarship winners be announced?
Applicants who are shortlisted for the Academic and General Excellence Scholarships will be invited to attend an interview with the Principal in Term 1. Short-listed applicants for the Music and Sport Scholarships will be invited to attend an interview with the Principal in Term 3. Scholarship winners will be announced either in April/May or in September, and unsuccessful candidates will be advised in writing. Details of their testing results will be included, if applicable.
